Vince Gironda taught that “bent-over squats” for most are not a true quad developer. He found that students would cheat and leverage themselves in the movement to produce a great butt, hip, and stomach expander.
As with any exercise, Vince Gironda stressed isolation of the hamstring muscle.
Vince Gironda always recommended various forms of front squatting with the heels raised, and or hacks and sissy squats but these exercises have always been rough on my knees.
Vince Gironda says for the sissy squat the feet should be 13″ apart and the knees 17″ wide.
The “tear drop” muscle in the inside of the thigh is a thing of beauty to behold. When it’s flexed, just the shape itself is beautiful and when it’s well developed it adds an element to the legs that’s plain fascinating.
The hamstrings have become almost as important as the quads. Consequently, you just can’t ignore them or even approach them casually.
I was fortunate to workout a handful of times at Vince’s Gym before it closed, Vince was even there most of those times.
