Sitting forlornly in some unused corner of the gym unwanted and ignored is the preacher bench, sometimes known as the Scott bench.
Insofar as I am concerned, I have never observed the preacher bench being used correctly.
It was my pleasure and privilege to know Vince Gironda for 45 years.
I trained for twenty years until I recently discovered that I make better progress and faster gains by not overworking. I do less sets and exercises now, but everything I do works my muscles to the maximum.
When I was about age 55, I took my family to Hawaii and we took a family photo right on the beach. I had already noticed my pants were getting tighter but it really hit me when I saw that photo.
Let’s talk a minute about equipment. The typical lat pull down bar turns down on the ends. I’ll tell you right now this is the wrong way to make big gains.
I picked this exercise up from the late Vince Gironda. I don’t think you’ll ever hear about it because it’s quite unusual but it’s a honey to give some life to a worn out chest routine.
What area of your body do you want to change most? 95% of the time people said, “help me get rid of this” as they grabbed their lower stomach. Man or woman it was the same.
Scott curls are the best exercise for building biceps I have ever seen. I am going to take the liberty of calling them Scott curls even though I didn’t invent the exercise. Over the years however, I have perfected the design of this little bench to where it is as close to perfection as anything I have been able to achieve.
